Key takeaways

  • Published private 1-on-1 rates in Phuket run from 700 to 1,500 baht per hour (checked 14 September 2026).
  • Kru Marn charges 700 baht per session, the lowest published single-session rate in this comparison.
  • Package discounts elsewhere bring the effective rate down to 750 to 1,000 baht per hour, so 700 baht still sits below every package rate listed here.
  • A pad holder certificate course in Phuket costs 10,000 to 15,000 baht for ten hours. Kru Marn charges 12,000 baht.
  • Gloves, wraps and pads are included in a private session. Your real extra cost is transport, water and food.

How much is a private Muay Thai session in Phuket?

A private 1-on-1 Muay Thai session in Phuket costs between 700 and 1,500 baht per hour at the gyms that publish their rates, based on prices checked on 14 September 2026. That is roughly 19 to 41 US dollars at the exchange rate at the time of writing. Training with Kru Marn costs 700 baht per session, which is the bottom of that range.

The spread is wide because you are not buying the same thing everywhere. At the top end you are paying for a head trainer with a stadium record, or for a resort camp with a pool and a cafe attached. At the bottom end you are paying for one experienced trainer, one hour, and nothing else built into the price.

What the price actually includes

A private session with Kru Marn is one trainer, one student, no group. Gloves, wraps and pads are provided, so the 700 baht is the whole cost of training. That matters more than it sounds: a first-time visitor who has to buy gloves, wraps and shin guards before a first class spends another 2,000 to 3,000 baht before throwing a single kick.

What is not in the price anywhere on the island:

  • Transport. Budget for a scooter rental or taxi rides if you are not staying near the gym.
  • Water and food. An hour of padwork in Phuket heat will empty you out.
  • Your own kit. Optional, but worth it past a week or two of training.
  • Recovery. Sports massage and physio on Soi Ta-iad are cheap and worth budgeting for once you are training several days a week.

Why package discounts do not change the ranking

Most Phuket gyms discount bulk private hours by roughly 10 to 20 percent. Sinbi drops from 1,000 baht per hour to an effective 850 baht across a 20-hour block. AKA Thailand drops from 800 to an effective 750 baht across ten hours. Sutai drops from 1,200 to 1,000.

Kru Marn does the opposite: his 20-session package is 14,000 baht, which is exactly 700 baht per session, the same as buying one. There is no bulk discount because the single-session price is already at the floor of the market. Even after every other gym's package discount, 700 baht per session remains the lowest rate in this comparison.

What this means for you

If you are unsure how long you will stay in Phuket, book single sessions. You lose nothing by not committing, because the package price per session is identical. The package exists to lock in a block of the trainer's calendar, not to sell you a discount.

What a pad holder certificate course costs

Pad holding is a separate product in Phuket and priced like one. Published rates for a certificate course in September 2026:

  • Rawai Muay Thai: 10,000 baht for ten hours.
  • Kru Marn: 12,000 baht for ten sessions of one hour, certificate on completion.
  • Sinbi Muay Thai: 15,000 baht for ten hours.
  • Phuket Muay Thai: 15,000 baht for ten hours of private instruction.

The course exists for two kinds of people: trainers and coaches who want to hold pads properly for their own students back home, and serious hobbyists who want to understand what the trainer on the other side of the pads is doing. It is the one course where holding matters more than hitting.

Budgeting for a week or a month of training

Straight arithmetic at 700 baht per session, so you can plan before you fly:

Training planSessionsCost
Holiday taster, 3 sessions in a week3฿2,100
One week, every weekday5฿3,500
One month, 3 times a week12฿8,400
20-session package20฿14,000

Three sessions a week is the pattern most visitors settle into. It leaves recovery days, which matter more than people expect when they are training in 32 degree heat and walking around a new island in between.

Private trainer or big camp?

Price is only half the decision. A large camp gives you a timetable, a ring, other students to spar with and a social scene. A private trainer gives you an hour where nobody else is competing for the coach's eyes.

The honest split: if you want volume, atmosphere and people to train alongside, a camp membership is the better buy. If you want your technique fixed, if you are short on time, or if you are a complete beginner who does not want to learn bad habits in a crowd of thirty, private hours are worth more per baht. Plenty of visitors do both, and the two are easy to combine on Soi Ta-iad, where most of Phuket's gyms sit on one street, including Dragon Muay Thai in Chalong, where Kru Marn teaches.

If you have never trained before, read what actually happens in a first Muay Thai session before you book anything.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to train Muay Thai in Phuket?

For private 1-on-1 training, published rates in Phuket run from 700 baht to 1,500 baht per hour, checked on 14 September 2026. Kru Marn charges 700 baht per session, which is the lowest single-session rate in this comparison. Group classes at the large camps are cheaper per session than a private hour, but the camps price them in day, week and month passes rather than per class, so the total depends on how long you stay.

Is private Muay Thai training worth it compared to group classes?

A private hour buys undivided attention. In a group class one trainer shares pad rounds between many students, so you may hold a bag for most of the hour. In a private session the trainer watches every rep and corrects it immediately, which is why most beginners learn a clean jab, teep and round kick faster one-on-one. Many people do both: group classes for volume and conditioning, private sessions for technique.

Do I need to bring my own gloves and wraps?

No. Training equipment is included in every session with Kru Marn. Bring sports clothing, a towel and water. If you plan to train for several weeks, buying your own gloves and hand wraps is more comfortable and more hygienic, and both are sold on Soi Ta-iad.

Can I pay per session or do I have to buy a package?

You can pay per session. A single session with Kru Marn is 700 baht. The 20-session package costs 14,000 baht, which is the same 700 baht per session, so there is no penalty for starting with one session and deciding afterwards.

How do I book a private session with Kru Marn?

Message Kru Marn on WhatsApp at +66 86 268 8174. There is no online booking system and no reception desk. You message the trainer directly and agree a time that fits your schedule.
